New/recent graduate vets - an exciting opportunity awaits you!

Picture this...

Working in your new role alongside an experienced 10-vet team at a practice in a heritage-rich riverfront location. You are just 40 minutes from the coastline, where you can take day trips to the Great Barrier Reef and snorkel to your heart's content while exploring a number of local islands dotted along the coast.

This is an opportunity to work in a supportive environment that offers continual learning opportunities at a practice committed to a high standard of medicine and surgery.

The friendly team of vets and nurses all love what they do and enjoy coming to work each day. The practice has a large caseload and sees many complex, interesting cases, making no two days the same!

Although the caseload is mainly domestic small animals, the practice does see wildlife very regularly, including sea turtles and birds, as well as some wombats.

Consult times at this practice are normally 20 minutes, but graduates will start on 30 minutes. Graduates are not required to be in the after-hours rota initially. There is great mentorship/support available for graduates.

The hospital is purpose-built and is very well equipped, including IDEXX pathology, endoscope, ultrasound, digital x-ray, dental radiography, ECG and pulse oximetry.

Being located in a regional area, the practice does most procedures in-house, for example, orthopaedics (including platings & TPLOs) and difficult medical case workups. If you want to develop and hone your vet skills in either medicine, surgery, or both, then this is a great place to learn.

The weekday hours are from 8 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday. The successful applicant will work a four-day week, and there is likely to be one in four weekends - Saturday 8 am to 12 pm, and Sunday 9 am to 11 am.

Continuing education is encouraged and expected. Study leave and courses are paid for. Three of the vets at the practice have memberships in surgery, and one has memberships in medicine.

The practice is located in a great regional city that is big enough to have plenty to do but small enough to still be a friendly country town. Come and enjoy the easy-going lifestyle of a regional centre!

Feedback from a 2019 graduate who started at this practice as a new graduate:

This is a great place for a new graduate to learn. There are nine other vets at the practice who are all very friendly and willing to help. The team get along well; vets, nurses and reception staff. The nurses are very well trained and happy to lend a hand. There are a lot of opportunities to build experience doing after-hours and managing emergency situations; however, the boss is always one phone call away if help is needed. There are a lot of beautiful natural features to explore close by, so there is plenty to do on days off.
