The friendly team at a four-vet practice located on the coast in Queensland requires a veterinarian for a full-time position.

Both experienced vets and new graduates are welcome to apply.

The practice owner is offering the successful applicant $5000 in relocation assistance plus three months of free accommodation. There is also a $5000 bonus being offered upon completion of 12 months at the practice.

This is a mixed practice with approximately 80% small animal work and 20% large animal work. The equine work is all pleasure horse. The cattle work is mainly beef cattle. There is the opportunity to undertake pregnancy and semen testing.

The clinic has a strong focus on canine reproduction. They have recently invested in a transcervical insemination scope. They perform a lot of progesterone testings and caesarean deliveries for their breeder clients, but they do not do any greyhound work.

The employer is willing to assist with a work permit (sponsorship) for suitable overseas candidates. Applicants must have a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (or equivalent) and be eligible for registration as a veterinary practitioner in Australia.

The practice is spacious and very well equipped with a video endoscope, blood analysers, ultrasound, gastroscope, digital x-ray, dental machine for small animals as well as large animal ultrasound (both cattle and horses) and power float for horses, pulse oximeter, Apalert and capnograph. It is computerised with Vision software.

Nurses at the practice are very well-trained and are involved in ensuring the workflow throughout the day. Nurses routinely place catheters and take bloods, allowing vets to get on with their consultations and focus on medicine and surgery.

Vets routinely work a, 35-hour, four-day week. There will be a requirement to participate in the weekend and after-hours roster. This is approximately 1 in 4 nights on call.

he practice is located close to beautiful beaches (ten minutes to the coast), national parks and the Whitsunday Islands. It is also close to the airport and is just a 1.5 hour flight to Brisbane.

Comments from a 2016 graduate who is currently working at this practice:

I had 12 months' experience when I started at this practice. The team is really good. They are very supportive. There is always someone available to back you up, even after hours. The roster allows for a really good work-life balance providing plenty of time to visit beaches etc in the area. The practice sees a really good caseload. There are lots of small animal cases but also cattle, horses, sheep, goats, pocket pets, exotics and wildlife.
