Vet Nurse Position Tasmania - 220,132LH2

A position has become available for a qualified veterinary nurse at a privately-owned practice in Tasmania.

The team consists of 7 vets and 22 support staff. One of the current vets has memberships in surgery; other vets have special interests in behaviour and medicine.

The ideal candidate will have excellent nursing skills with a solid knowledge and understanding of nursing procedures, along with a great sense of humour and exceptional communication skills. Applicants should have integrity and a friendly, can-do attitude. Confidence in monitoring anaesthesia will be viewed advantageously, and experience using Ezyvet will be highly regarded.

Nurses rotate between hospital, surgery and treatment. Some nursing consults will be required. There is minimal reception work.

Duties will include:

- Undertaking general nursing tasks, including pre and post-operative care, emergency and critical care and animal pathology.

- Monitoring anaesthesia

- Taking x-rays, placing cannulas, administering medications, triaging emergencies, performing basic clinical examinations, nurse consults & basic scale and polishes.

- Calculating basic drug doses and fluid rates

- Writing basic clinical notes and histories

- Processing payments and billing

- Answering and making phone calls

- Sharing animal husbandry knowledge and skills

- Cleaning hospital areas

The role can be full or part-time. No after-hours are required.

The clinic has the latest equipment, including dental x-ray and Vetquip Dental Unit, DR digital x-ray, blood pressure monitor, tonopen, ECG, spO2 and microscopes. There is also a brand new MyLab Ultrasound.
